The Merchant Venturer with 35028 Clan Line

The mighty Merchant Navy Class pacific 35028 Clan Line makes its second non-VSOE tour, hauling the Merchant Venturer from London Waterloo to Bristol via Reading, along the Berks and Hants route and via Westbury, on 21/11/09. The Pacific hauled 13 coaches plus a Class 67 diesel equivalent to hauling 600 tons, not often used with mainline steam. The weather predicted that day was to be atrocious, so it wasn't easy for sometime of the day. We start off at Taplow near Slough were the Merchant Navy slows to a stop as she is being signal checked, a rare sight for steam to be on the Paddington and Reading route! After she gets watered at Newbury Racecourse, we see her again along at Crofton, known for its scenic canals and its pumping station making it a authentic sight in the days of steam. After night fall the weather becomes ferocious with heavy downpours. Clan Line is seen at Warminster on its return trip from Bristol. After going through the onslaught of nature we finally see the Bullied Pacific roar along her home line at Andover, a common route for some Merchant Navys during steam days.
